WAKING THE SOUL OF AMERICA:
Celebrating the Centennial of Paramahansa Yogananda’s Arrival in the West

The blessed role of Kriya Yoga in the East and West has hardly more than just begun.
May all come to know that there exists a definite, scientific technique of Self-realization for the overcoming of all human misery!
– Paramahansa Yogananda’s concluding words in his Autobiography of a Yogi

This September marks the one-hundredth anniversary of Paramahansa Yogananda's journey to bring the transformative teachings of Kriya Yoga to the West. As he predicted, yoga has spread far and wide, awakened countless souls, changed the way we experience spirituality, and provided access to India's ancient wisdom for living a life of higher purpose, meaningful prosperity, happiness, and freedom. Throughout September and October, we are offering a celebration program with several events to highlight Yogananda's life, explore the vital legacy he entrusted to us, and consider how it can aid our step into the years ahead.

with Yogacharya O'Brian & Swami Nirvanananda
Saturday, September 19, 2020 / 12 PM (PT) (view recording here)

Paramahansa Yogananda taught America to chant devotional songs and to become aware of the resonant vibratory power of the great mantra Aum from which all sounds issue forth. Through chanting and silent meditation on Aum, the devotee enters the sanctuary of the soul. Listen and sing along as Swami Nirvanananda leads chants written by Paramahansa Yogananda and participate in the guided meditation session led by Yogacharya.

Swami Nirvanananda sings beautiful kirtans and love songs to God in most European languages as well as English, Hindi and Sanskrit. Merging the spiritual science of Kriya Yoga with the devotional approach of Bhakti Yoga and the charitable path of Karma Yoga, Swamiji expresses unity in the diversity of many paths, all leading to the same goal of universal Love and oneness with Spirit. Swami Nirvanananda conveys a unique combination of humility and devotion and love for God and humanity that he expresses through a divinely transcendental voice and exquisite musicianship. A true "Divine Gypsy," Swamiji has been traveling for more than 20 years bringing his beautiful kirtans and uplifting devotional songs to thousands while raising funds to support his extensive charitable projects around the holy city of Puri, India.
