To be transcendent is to overcome the conditions of the world.  In the East the swan is the symbol of transcendence because it floats over the waves of the lake with poise and grace.  In this afternoon class, we will explore three very different American authors, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Walt Whitman, and Henry David Thoreau, who not only lived this way, but who laid the foundation for mysticism in the United States.

Dr. Bill Little is the Spiritual Director of the Center for Spiritual Awakening in Pacific Grove, California.   He has been a spiritual leader and metaphysical teacher for 40 years.   Dr. Little holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Physics and served in the U.S. Navy at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California as a teacher of Mathematics and Physics.  He also holds a ministerial degree from Religious Science International. Dr. Little’s teachers included Dr. Raymond Charles Barker of the New York City Church of Religious Science and Dr. Tom Johnson of the Morristown, New Jersey church.
