We have within us a sanctuary of peace and a fortress of strength. These days we need access to that refuge more than ever, both as a regular practice and anytime the need arises as we navigate the hills and valleys of the spiritual path. In this practical presentation, Philip Goldberg will draw upon his new book, Spiritual Practice for Crazy Times, and his previous book, The Life of Yogananda, to help us better deploy spiritual techniques, create a personalized inventory of practices, utilize sacred spaces, improve our spiritual time management, and maintain what the Bhagavad Gita calls “equanimity in pleasure and pain, gain and loss, victory and defeat.” But today’s challenges demand not only self-protection but also responsible citizenship. We’ll explore what Phil calls “the Spiritual Two-Step”—spiritual practice as both a sanctuary and a platform for action grounded in compassion and unified awareness. In that context, we’ll take a fresh look at concepts such as maya, karma, dharma, and non-attachment. The times may be crazy, but we don’t have to be—and we can help restore harmony, balance, and sanity.

In addition to Spiritual Practice for Crazy Times, PHILIP GOLDBERG is the author or co-author of numerous books including American Veda and The Life of Yogananda: The Story of the Yogi Who Became the First Modern Guru. He is a public speaker and workshop leader; a spiritual counselor, meditation teacher and ordained Interfaith Minister. He co-hosts the Spirit Matters podcast, leads American Veda Tours and blogs regularly on Elephant Journal and Spirituality & Health.
