Buddhi, the discerning aspect of mind, is like an impartial judge who weighs inputs from the sensory cast of characters. The ego receives information from buddhi and decides which course of action is most beneficial to the self. A surrendered or purified ego will choose the course of action in harmony with the soul.

We can do many things at once, such as driving our car while conversing with our friend, a passenger. With our attention on the road and awareness of our destination guiding our turns, we can still listen to our friend and respond. In this same way, it is possible to work in the world and fulfill our responsibilities while inwardly engaging in prayer.
