We are capable of doing many things at once, such as driving our car while having a conversation with our friend who is a passenger. We can listen to our friend and respond, all the while keeping our attention on the road with awareness of our destination guiding our turns. In this same way, it is possible to work in the world and fulfill our responsibilities while inwardly engaging in prayer.

Doing sadhana is like carrying a lamp into the dark night of our unconscious life. It reveals what is already there. It’s easier to ignore the clutter of self-will and attachments that collect in our life if we do not bring the light to them. Once we see what is there, we can begin a new way of living.
