Without initial discipline and the willingness to surrender self will to the divine will of the higher true Self, the undisciplined will is like a puppy that grows into a dog that destroys the house and the yard. If the same puppy is trained, it can even be a guide dog, providing great service to its owner.

A person who has mastered himself or herself will have no problem with others. A sure sign of self-mastery is the ability to perceive others with an equal eye, recognizing God in all, the one Self playing all the roles.

Who is our friend? Who is our enemy? Most people have experienced that even the same person can play both roles in our life. Who hasn't had a lover or a friend betray their trust? When this happens the good, admirable, likable qualities of that person seem to vanish overnight. Was this person the reason for our joy? Are they now the reason for our sorrow? Realize the true source of joy and be free.
