The steady heart is conscious of the distinction between ultimate reality and the changing conditions of material existence. One with a steady heart remains rooted in the unchanging truth that underlies all conditions and therefore is able to maintain equanimity in the face of change whether pleasant or unpleasant.

There are differences in the talents and abilities that people possess but at the soul level, there is absolute equality. Everyone deserves the same respect, all are children of the one Father-Mother, all are God's instruments. One with a steady heart looks through all appearances to the truth, and relates to others soul to soul.

When we know the One Reality permeating all of life, and see through the veil of differences to the unity of all, there ensues a divine romance, a relationship with Life itself that is revealed in all creation. This brings such joy to the heart that we are in constant praise and adoration. As this conscious relationship is courted, the field of God reveals itself to the devotee as vibrant with supportive grace. For such a practitioner of yoga, God is everywhere.

Awe of God in creation leads to doing everything as worship, everything is for God, in God, and furthers the experience of divine communion. No longer is meditation restricted to discrete periods of time in a seated pose, meditation is the conscious awareness of the omnipresence of God that fills the devotee's heart day and night. Work becomes a song of praise offered in delight.

As a flower offered to the Lord may be a rose or a daisy, the devotee's station in life, or particular duty, has no bearing. It is the quality of the heart within the action that matters.

The vision of oneness naturally leads to compassionate action and service of humanity because we see the pain and joy of others as our own. Just as we are instinctively inclined to care for our own body when it is injured, so one who is awake cannot resist caring for others.

The way to inner peace and happiness begins with claiming our own power to transform our minds and the willingness to cease blaming others for our difficulties.
