Thursday 09/04/2003 Dedicate your home as a place of blessing. This purifies the heart and brings forth an awareness of the divine presence right where we are. When we have the intent of blessing we are more likely to act in accordance with our divine nature-to be generous, patient, and kind. We are signed on to override the ego's quick draw to irritability, selfishness, or pride. Rev. Ellen Grace O'Brian
Friday 09/05/2003 The energy of prayer infuses your home environment like a sweet fragrance. The same discipline of the monastery that supports the monks in practicing the presence of God through regular times of prayer can be easily incorporated into the life of householders. Rev. Ellen Grace O'Brian
Saturday 09/06/2003 Look for the times when a moment of prayer, or mindfulness, could bring more spiritual awareness to your day--on entering and leaving your home, on beginning work, on answering the telephone, or at meal times. Decide where the natural intervals are in the flow of your day and commit to pause for a moment of prayer or contemplation at those times. It only takes a moment. Rev. Ellen Grace O'Brian
Sunday 09/07/2003 The householder who is able to live simply is one who puts God first. When spiritual realization or love for God is the primary motive for our actions this becomes easy. Monday 09/08/2003 Awakening to discipleship on the spiritual path coincides with the initial awakening to the Guru, the realization of God within us. The role of the external teacher or guru is to introduce us to this reality--to lead us home to the True Guru, our own divine nature. Rev. Ellen Grace O'Brian
Tuesday 09/09/2003 The spiritual teacher is one who leads us across the river of delusion to discover the shore of eternity--taking us from identification with the body-mind as separate self to the reality of our spiritual nature and our oneness with God. Rev. Ellen Grace O'Brian
Wednesday 09/10/2003 The valid knowledge of direct perception that exists in the mind of the enlightened teacher is imparted to the receptive listener. Because it is valid knowledge, it will resonate with the student's own intuitive wisdom. The discerning spiritual seeker can perceive, when listening to spiritual teachings, that which is spoken with the authority of revealed knowledge. Rev. Ellen Grace O'Brian
