Renunciation does not require renouncing the world or our duties in it. The abode of the true renunciate is the cave of the heart. Everything that is done with nonattachment and love for God in our hearts is renunciation.

Love for God is the antidote for the suffering that comes from attachment to things. Detaching from desires can be an austerity practiced with great effort and resolve, or it can happen effortlessly like the wave returning to the ocean.

The nature of thought is to divide, to compare one thing against another. Love unifies. God is One and free of “other.” Therefore, God can never be known through thought. Only undivided love reveals God’s presence.
