Any time we come to our meditation practice for some reason—to find peace, to get enlightened, or to solve a problem—it is contrary to the true spirit of meditation. Such thoughts are about the future. Meditation is now, a radical return to joy now.

The spiritual way of life requires us to swim against the current of conformity—the message of the world that says that material possessions, fame, and relationships will bring us happiness and security. We must be interested in seeking another way to break free from this illusion and believe it is possible.
