Lust, greed, and anger are cousins. When the heart is occupied with self-interest, anger is not far behind. Conflicting desires fight and anger comes to settle the dispute. But when self-interest is removed, so is the dispute.

Look to the root of anger to find the desire it springs from. Trying to dissipate anger by venting it is like blowing dandelion seeds in the wind. They will take root and spring up again. Use the trowel of discrimination and pull out the root.

Balance is the safest and quickest way to divine realization. Those who attempt to cultivate a virtuous life without the benefit of meditation, or who develop great will but neglect cultivating surrender, or who spend all their time meditating without serving others, discover great difficulties on the path. The devotee who consciously cultivates balance finds steady progress.
