Selfless service can be identified by pure intent, a motive that is free from selfishness; the ability to remain even-minded in times of loss or gain, praise or blame; and depth of caring for the means of the work while surrendering the result.

To work for peace and non-violence in our world is a perfect task for one who would practice karma yoga. Those attached to results either do not begin such work because they not believe it is possible to achieve or they attempt to force solutions, ultimately contributing to the violence they would eradicate. Practicing karma yoga, or selfless service, one can begin.
