Open your awareness to the presence of God like a mother searches for her child in a crowd--with strong intention, confidence, and a clear belief that she will find him. For her, everything else falls away from awareness. She seeks only her child. This is how we must seek God.

Spiritual renunciation is detachment from desiring the fruits of our actions. It is also the refusal to identify our self as the agent of action. This is the way of freedom--to let go of desiring particular outcomes and to realize Spirit is the doer.

The self-discipline of restraining the appetites and transmuting them toward spiritual focus is like building a hot fire into which we place all of our conditioned ways of being. It is not for its own sake--that leads to pride and further bondage--but for the sake of breaking the bonds of desire and mindless living.
