Buddhi, or the discerning aspect of mind, is like an impartial judge who weighs inputs from the sensory cast of characters. Ego receives input from buddhi and decides which course of action is most beneficial to the self. A surrendered or purified ego will choose the course of action in harmony with the soul.

We are capable of doing many things at once, such as driving our car while having a conversation with our friend who is a passenger. We can listen to our friend and respond, all the while keeping our attention on the road with awareness of our destination guiding our turns. In this same way, it is possible to work in the world and fulfill our responsibilities while inwardly engaging in prayer.
