Monday 08/16/2021 Sometimes people think, “I don’t have enough time for spiritual practice.” But this moment is the time for practice. We practice by the choices we make. Ellen Grace O'Brian
Tuesday 08/17/2021 Spiritual practice is choosing peace, clarity, and compassion in thought, speech, and action. We have only to observe our thoughts and choices to determine whether we align ourselves with peace, chase after desires, or succumb to depression or inertia. Practice is making any corrections needed. Ellen Grace O'Brian
Wednesday 08/18/2021 Another thorn can remove a thorn embedded in our foot. After we use the thorn to extract the embedded one, we toss both aside. So can we use desire itself to remove the negative force of wanting. Yearning for Self-realization can replace the error-driven desire for something external to bring us happiness or security. Thursday 08/19/2021 When we worry, our mind is preoccupied with thoughts of the future. With regret, it returns to the past. Awareness of our essential spiritual nature requires us to bring our attention to the present moment. In that pure present moment, we can experience freedom from want. Ellen Grace O'Brian
Friday 08/20/2021 To forgive, or to become willing to forgive, frees us. It brings us back into the present moment where love is available, and we choose it. Ellen Grace O'Brian
Saturday 08/21/2021 If criticism hurts us, we can deduce that praise can seduce us. Both admiration and blame can be opportunities for self-inquiry. With praise, release attachment and give thanks to God for all gifts worthy of honor. In times of blame or criticism, ask if there is any truth to it. If so, use it as an opportunity to grow. Sunday 08/22/2021 Establishing a routine of meditation is similar to beginning an exercise program. First, the body and mind resist; then, the positive benefits start to influence our decision-making process. When the subtle pleasure of meditation permeates the mental field, we are inclined to want to meditate and miss it if we don’t. Persevering to this point establishes a positive habit and brings us joy. Ellen Grace O'Brian
