The devotee who is able to remain centered in Self-realization, who rests in the peace of the soul in meditation, is able to sense God's presence in the activities of daily life.

"Dana," or charitable giving, is an opportunity to change our consciousness from lack to abundance--from being separate and apart to being directly connected to the Source of all good.

The practice of giving opens the way to having enough by changing our consciousness from lack to abundance. People who believe they do not have enough to give, don't. People who realize they have enough to give, will always have enough. Through giving we open the door to the flow of abundance from the Source.

"Dana," or tithing, is very similar to establishing a meditation practice. We commit ourselves to giving on a regular basis because of who we are and our relationship to life. We do not give because we feel like giving. We give because we know we are not separate from the Source of all giving.

Like meditation, the spiritual practice of dana, or tithing, takes commitment and consistent practice. We must change our minds and consciousness to be in alignment with the truth that generosity represents.

There are times when we are tempted to fall prey to old belief systems of either not having enough, or thinking that our participation does not matter. These are delusions of the ego that tries to assert its separate existence from the Source.
