“The purpose of Hatha Yoga is to prevent either hemisphere of the brain from dominating the other, to create a sattvic state."

—Hatha Yoga Pradipika with commentary by Swami Vishnu-devanada

Our theme for this Fall Yoga Retreat Day will revolve around how the practices of Hatha Yoga (postures, pranayama and meditative awareness) support the development of sattva guna—a state of harmony, balance, lightness and goodness.

This day will be a unique opportunity to slow down, dive deep and open to the experience of being vibrantly alive, clear and focused. Allow yourself to be fully embraced by the soothing presence of a meditative awareness.

Join us for asana (posture) and pranayama practice (with Julianne and Carolyn), community activities (with Divya), free time in the gardens, moments of silence, and a delicious, nourishing vegetarian lunch.

OVERNIGHT OPTION

Julianne Shivani Rice, C-IAYT, a certified Hatha Yoga teacher and an IAYT certified Yoga Therapist has her roots with CSE. She was initiated by her spiritual teacher, Yogacharya O’Brian, in the early 1990s. Shivani was manager and lead hatha yoga teacher at CSE for 25 years. She currently teaches online and leads retreats at the Land of Medicine Buddha.

Divya Zuccaro was certified for Relax With Yoga in the Integral Yoga tradition in 1997. Since then, she's been privileged to lead tens of thousands of yoga classes. She is the conceiver, co-creator, and happy proliferator of the Meditation Sampler program and feels especially fortunate to offer meditation guidance for women with cancer through WomenCare of Santa Cruz. So inspired by the centering effects of yoga and meditation, in 2015 Divya earned certifications for various methods of hypnotherapy and, that same year, started a wellness business called Calm Together.

Carolyn Bowman has been practicing yoga since 1992. She completed her 200 hour Yoga Teaching Training in 2019. Since then she’s been teaching yoga to all ages. Her motto is “yoga is for EVERY body" and she has adapted traditional yoga poses to the chair as well as to water. Born with cerebral palsy, yoga has provided the framework for moving her body forward every day.
