Excitement has another side, the depression that comes when the excitement has burned down. Enthusiasm, or being "in God," is more useful. With enthusiasm, our focus is on God, rather than the excitement fueled from imagining how things will turn out.

Don't confuse selfless service with activity. The hallmark of selfless service is peace and the harmony of unity consciousness. This does not come from either activity or inactivity but relies on a pure intent.

Like a mother who gives her child the toy he believes will bring him happiness, the spiritual teacher may assist devotees with their karma by helping them fulfill certain desires. Just as the mother knows the toy will soon be cast aside, so the teacher sees the student's steps before they are taken.
