Conscience and compassion grows as awareness grows. Before awakening spiritually, it is possible to do things that are harmful to others and ourselves without knowing. Once we become aware, we become increasingly uncomfortable with harmful behavior. If we remain steady on the spiritual path, the discomfort of being out of integrity will prompt us to change our behavior.

Feelings are sometimes feared because of the interpretations we put on them, the stories we tell ourselves about what they mean. To simply be present to feelings and to listen for God within the depths of our own heart, mind, and body is a form of prayer.
