The human need for shelter or protection is basic. When the ego provides shelter it is like a corrupt landowner who misuses the labor of his tenant farmers for his own greed and leaves them with nothing. When we turn to God for shelter all is given through love.

Notice the emphasis placed on listening in the spiritual traditions: Krishna tells Arjuna, "Listen to my Supreme Word", Jesus says, "My sheep will hear my voice," the sacred Jewish prayer begins "Hear O Israel." What is it to listen or to hear but to become receptive, a vessel, an opening?
