The "airplane route" to patience is to go directly to divine remembrance through devotion and meditation. The slower "foot path" is the cultivation of the virtues and surrender to God in the moment of challenge. We can dwell in the higher true Self through divine remembrance or we can work to reduce the self-serving motives of ego--either way is useful.

The self-serving motives of ego are destroyed by serving others, letting go of attachment to outcome, not reacting to praise or blame and giving with no thought of receiving in return.
