With a mind full of thoughts than run like a stampede of horses, how is it possible to know happiness? When the restless mind is brought to a still point through concentration on God, the stampeding horses stop to drink from the waters of the soul's joy.

If we have a little stream of running water in our garden and we want to divert it away from flooding the footpath and into the flowerbed, we must dig a new channel and block the old. Similarly, if we want think of God instead of allowing random thoughts to flood the mind, we must direct and focus our attention.
