The false self pretends to do spiritual work but on its time frame and self-serving agenda, and without surrender. The soul’s way is to lead with the peace that prevails, not the aggression that tires and annoys.

The feeling of overwhelm is more related to desire than it is to action. The same body can fight hard, kicking feet and thrashing arms to stay afloat in water or relax and stay afloat effortlessly.

Impatience, frustration, and irritability are all shades of anger related to thwarted desire. If we practice imperturbability, we short circuit the karmic trap and free ourselves from present pain and future unhappiness.

To be surrendered to God means to live in the moment, open to what life brings. It’s not that we float along in our boat of life without steering toward a destination, tossed about with every wave of change. Our course is charted to God-realization, and our rudder is service. Now we can enjoy the ride.

When all that we do, all that we encounter, everyone, and everything is for the sake of God-realization, the attachment to particular outcomes falls away. When the only goal desired is spiritual awakening, whatever happens can serve that purpose.
