The wisdom of spiritual teachings diagnoses the disease of ignorance that causes suffering. Regular sadhana or right spiritual practice is the medicine that supports the cure. Like any medicine, it is only useful if one makes use of it and follows the prescription for its proper use.

Discernment beyond initial impressions is necessary to determine whether our thoughts and actions will lead to happiness or sorrow. Lust and greed are pleasurable in the beginning but end in pain. Compassion and kindness may be painful in the beginning but end in happiness.
