True freedom is freedom from attachment, desire, and being driven by impulsive reactions. Freedom is the ability to live in the soul, guided by the Higher True Self, God within us.

When we cannot discern between what brings pain and suffering and what will bring lasting happiness, we become enslaved to our own desires and attachments. The wisdom and compassion of our Higher Power, or God, frees us from that through the illumination of our mind.

To walk with God on the path of life is to put God first, to do what we do and remember God. When we have faith in God, we remember that God is our Life, the Source of all good, happiness, and security.

When we allow something other than God to fully occupy our minds, when we put it first in our thoughts and our concerns, we bring in another "god" before God. We give it power and it starts to rule our life.

We are free. God's grace has already freed us to live in joy and in love. But without consciously embracing this truth, we begin to work to accomplish what is already given, and take ourselves into slavery. Sabbath exists to ensure our freedom from slavery.
