Cutting off a particular train of thought is like cauterizing a vein; the energy must then seek another path. As dissipating thoughts are continuously "cauterized" through conscious discrimination, the energy of Self-realization grows. It is possible to have our thoughts immersed in God but only through the self-discipline of "cauterization."
